Willful Blindness

'Willful Blindness' (2026, 06:27 Mins.) resulted from the necessity of the artist, and indeed most artists from working class backgrounds, having to do many different 'day jobs' in order to make ends meet. The video consists of the answers to five questions that were asked during job interviews over the years. In the video, the interview questions are answered with brutal honesty, rather than the insincere answers that were given in the real world interview situations. These answers were then edited over each other to mimic the working practices of creating artistic practice and also working one, two or three jobs at the same time. During the course of making the video, the premise shifted towards the damage done by these day jobs. The obvious damage would be the lack of time and that they take the focus away from the artist's practice. However the damage inflicted on the self is greater, especially believing that the damage is self-inflicted when in reality the artist is attempting to function in a world that finds having a regional accent or a female body undesirable in the workplace.
