The Crux of the Matter (2025, 03:15 Mins.) is a short experimental video that subverts a familiar interview format. The piece consists of the answers to five questions, recorded sequentially from five different camera angles. The five questions were then edited simultaneously using blind editing — a process developed by the artist where cuts are made without looking at the footage. The editing resembled a sculptural process, chipping away at a large block of digital material. However, where a sculptural process might reveal a subject from a mass of material, the blind editing process reduces control and obscures the subject further. The Crux of the Matter suggests that the answers to all of the questions lies in the creative process, and the artistic possibilities are endless. However, the restrictions — specifically a lack of resources and the challenges of being a working class artist — are always visible and remain at the heart of everything.
