50 WIGS: Objects

’50 Wigs’ is a series of experimental videos that examine the successes and failures of collections and community. The 50 wigs were collected by the artist over many years and most of them have appeared in previous video works. The wigs provide layered narratives within the work as well as acting as an absurd kind of ‘community’. In '50 WIGS: Objects', the final video in the series, the artist brings together 50 objects – including personal items, gifts received and media such as DVD, CD and cassette that are now either obsolete or outdated. The video comments on the power of objects to bring people together, either through gift giving, fandom or through shared experiences. The video was recorded in 2021 but not edited until 2025 when all of the artists possessions, and almost everything in this film, was in storage and unaccessible. A lifetime of stuff can enrich lives and bring people together, but it can also be a burden.
